Municipal Solid Waste

♦ An inexhaustible source of waste being produced and expanding on a daily basis because of the race to emerge in to the “modern” era, has put enormous strains  on society to come to grips with its treatment of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW).
♦ According to evaluation of Viet Nam authorities, in the 2015  the volume of MSW will be of 25 mln MT a year. In the area of Ho Chi Minh City it is estimated  as 4 mln MT a year. At moment, on the daily basis the amount of MSW is not less than 6’000 MT per day.
♦ EU has legislated the end of landfills as receptacle of MSW for many reasons, not the least of which, it is one of the biggest sources of bad side effects to environment including greenhouse gas emissions .

  The HCMC authorities haven’t found yet an efficient solution for MSW processing. The landfills is still the only way of waste treatment.  If landfills is chosen, for the coming  20 years it’s needed more than 2’500 ha for this purpose.
